The midnight anchor
Every NYE plan works backward from midnight. Three phases: arrival and grazing (9–10:30), games and peak food (10:30–11:45), countdown and toast (11:45–12:15), wind-down (after). Plan each phase; the night runs itself.

The evening timeline
- 9:00–10:30: arrivals, grazing table, background music, one passive activity (prediction pool on the year ahead — predictions sealed in an envelope for next NYE)
- 10:30–11:45: main game block — pick two from the game picker filtered to your group; serve the hot food here
- 11:45–12:15: countdown setup (stream tested earlier, not at 11:58), toast, photos, resolution cards
- After 12:15: dessert, wind-down playlist, take-home containers; no new games started
Resolution game (the keeper tradition)
Each guest writes one prediction and one resolution, sealed in an envelope with their name. Host keeps the envelopes; open them at next year’s party before writing new ones. Costs nothing, becomes the tradition by year two.
Champagne and drinks math
Toast servings: guests ÷ 5 = bottles for midnight. All-night sparkling: half the group drinks it steadily — plan 2–3 servings per such guest across the evening. Full quantities in the guest supply calculator. Chill everything by 6pm; warm bubbly at midnight is the classic failure.
The 1am exit plan
State the end at invitation (“winding down around 1”). At 12:45, bring out containers and coffee; at 1, lights up slightly, music down. Guests with sleepover spots get bedding locations named before midnight, not negotiated after it.
